Joliet Remembers
The 1900s

The 1900s were exciting years. The Wright Brothers invented the airplane.  Henry Ford founded the Ford Motor Company in 1903, and 5 years later began production of the Model T.  The Chicago Cubs won the Word Series.  Joliet Central High School, the Joliet Public Library main library, and the Scott street Post Office were built.

On these pages the Joliet Public Library presents images of stories from Joliet newspapers that show what Jolietans read about major events, and ads that illustrate what life was like in Joliet during the 1900s.  There are also images of picture post cards that also illustrate how buildings in Joliet looked during this decade.
