Joliet Remembers
The 1930s

According to the Website, The History of Joliet Catholic Academy, http://www.jca-online.org/pdf_files/jca_history.pdf, De La Salle High School was founded  by the Christian Brothers in 1918.  The Website notes that  "Throughout the years, the Christian Brothers labored well for the young men of the Joliet area, but in 1933 the Depression forced them to leave the school. In August of 1933, the Carmelite priests assumed ownership of De LaSalle and along with it, a heavy debt. As a tribute to the people of Joliet, the Carmelites renamed the school Joliet Catholic High School."

Below are images of headlines and stories from the Joliet Herald-News about the transition.
