Joliet Remembers
The 1930s

 

According to the Joliet Herald-News, on December 5, 1933  the state of Utah was prepared to ratify the the 21st Amendment to the U.S. Constitution. Upon Utah's ratification, the amendment took effect immediately, thus ending the prohibition of the manufacture, sale or gift of beverages containing more than 0.5% alcohol, which had begun on January 17, 1920.
