Joliet Remembers
The 1930s

On October 30, 1938, CBS broadcast a dramatization of  H. G. Wells' novel about an invasion of Earth by Martians; War of the Worlds.  The broadcast caused widespread panic, even though listeners  were advised four times that  it was a work of fiction.

Below are images of stories about the broadcast that appeared in the Joliet Herald-News the next day.
